Rows of Graves in the Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery
This photograph by Paul Stellwagen gives a sense of the lonely, endless rows of graves, sometimes in light, sometimes in shade, and at night in darkness.

To the right there is a grave at which flowers were left. It bears the inscription:
RICHARD METTLER
PVT. 306 INF. 77 DIV.
NORTH DAKOTA OCT. 1, 1918
This was the photographer's great-uncle.
Photograph from Wednesday, 5 September 2012, between 5 and 6 PM (Central European Time - Summer)
