Letter from Salvatore D'alessandro to his godmother in America - Pages 3-4

Vittoria d'Alessandro lived with her daughter Pasqualina Iacovelli in Camden, New Jersey, since 1920 when she emigrated to America with her three youngest children to join her husband Giuseppe DiRenzo, and their daughters Nunziata (photographed with her in Camden) and Pasqualina (in Camden in the 1940s).

la mia mangazo le puro troppo da che io sono tornato in'Italia non visono mai scritto ma viprego da perdonarmi di questo che io sono mangato e che io cisono ricevuto tanto bene da voi tutti mia carissima patina voi bene sapiato come sitira avanto la famiglia che civuole molto picienza

ed suggeto qualche volte in ripenzo al bene come offatto io verso di voi e faretoci sapere come vila passato voi e figli e nipoti e nei qua carissma patina

My failure unfortunately since I have returned to Italy to write to you, I beg you to forgive this failure of mine. I have received so much kindness from you all, my dearest godmother. You know well that to keep [my] family going demands much patience.

And it happens sometimes that I recall all the good I have [not] done you. And let us know how things are going for you and the children and grandchildren and among you there, dearest godmother.

ma oramai la guerra le quaso fenito e speriamo che possiamo passare unpo bene

io non alto pui che dirti vido tanti affetuosi saluti io avoi saluto alle tuoi figli e tutti di famiglia vi saluto molto mio figlio Felice vi saluto mia moglia vi saluto mia figlia Antonietta con tutti di famiglia vi ritorno a salutarvo io e sono il tuo figliatello

Here we do not do so well because here there is war

But now the war is almost over and we hope that we can live a little better.

I don't have anything more to tell you. I send you many affectionate greetings. I send greetings to you, to your children and all the family. My son Felice sends you many greetings. My wife sends you greetings. My daughter Antonietta sends you greetings. With all the family I again send you greetings, and I am your godson
