Gambatesa's Ossuary
Gambatesa's "bone pit" is located in a passage between the old and the new cemetery. A caretaker from the old days told me (He is dead now) that he would collect the skulls and bones, that is, archeological deposits, that farmers dug up when working their fields, and pour them into the ossuary (which was probably illegal). The last burial-in-the-ground in Gambatesa was in 1990.
