Colle della Madonna, Gambatesa

"Madonna Pass" (Colle della Madonna) is the valley between the village of Gambatesa and Toppo della Salandra ("Salandra Ridge"), in which is located the Chapel of Our Lady of Victory (Cappella di Maria Santissima della Vittoria).  The valley is almost 200 meters below the village of Gambatesa.

The photograph below shows the northwestern end of the village of Gambatesa and the Chapel of Our Lady of Victory in the valley below it.  [See map of Colle della Madonna.]  The photograph was taken from Toppo della Salandra's side of the valley-pass.

As can be seen from the map of Colle della Madonna, the valley between Gambatesa and Toppo della Salandra is quite narrow.  It would be a difficult route for an invading army if its invasion were opposed.

The crop in the lower left is Indian corn (maize).  The farm building with silos is either for chickens or pigs: Gambatesa is a farming community.
